If your child has just joined us this term, we would welcome the opportunity to share some important information with you on Wednesday 12th September from 5:30pm until 7:30pm. During the evening, you will have the opportunity to meet your child’s new form teacher and to speak to other staff who have helped them settle in to their new school. Our Leaders in English and Maths will also be sharing their ideas on how best to support your child whilst at Walker Technology College. Refreshments will be available and your child is welcome to attend with you. We look forward to meeting you on Wednesday!
Fancy a Football Mash Up? Join us on Mondays, straight after school Are you 14 to 17 years old and no longer able to commit to playing 11-a-side football for your local club, and yet you still want to have a kick-around with your mates? Then a ‘Football Mash Up’ through The FA Vauxhall Youth Programme could be ideal for you. At The FA they understand that for a variety of reasons teenagers drop out of playing regular 11-a-side club football, and this doesn’t necessarily mean that these young people have fallen out of love with the 'beautiful game.'
We have a fantastic opportunity for girls in Years 7 through to 9. WAGS (Women and Girls’ Soccer) sessions are starting on Thursday 27th September after school 3-4pm, targeting school years 7, 8, and 9 (and some Year 10 Leaders) for a 4 weeks block of coaching followed by a festival and weekly league up until Christmas. There will also be leadership opportunities for the players and some lucky girls will be identified as potential players to attend a Leadership Academy.
Once again, the students at Walker Technology College were celebrating their successes on GCSE results day. With 79% of students receiving 5A*-C grades, we achieved our best ever GCSE results. A whopping 73% of students gained grade C or above in Maths, another record breaking result for WTC. Whilst these headline grabbing statistics are fantastic, nothing is more important than the students behind the figures and we would like to wish all our students the best of the luck on the next stage of their journey. Please read on as we share some of our individual success stories with you or view more photographs in our photo album.
This summer, a group of students visited the village of Naromoru at the foot of Mount Kenya, Africa; a trip which the students have described as “the opportunity of a lifetime”. They have learnt so much about survival in a developing community but more importantly they have learnt how, despite poverty and hardship, a community can work together to bring about change. You can view photos from the trip in the photo album section or click below to read more.
There has never been a better time to join Walker Technology College. With examination results the highest they have ever been and now £30M state of the art facilities, we are confident we can match any college or sixth form for quality of provision.
Not only are our facilities second to none, we take care to create an environment which has rigorous expectations providing students with everything necessary to be successful, yet at the same time we always retain a sense of perspective and good humour. High quality relationships are built up quickly between students and tutors working in much smaller groups where individual support is personalised and effective. This approach is very distinctive in our sixth form and creates a warm and inclusive environment.
Our students also have an excellent track record of progression. Expert information, advice and guidance are given to support students to successfully access further training, employment or university programmes every year.
We wish you every success in making your choice for further education. We hope you choose Walker and give us the opportunity to shape your future with you.
Mr M Collier (Headteacher)
